The thre e - h o u r meeting will be organized around two broad concåpts: the information commons (the concept; its fate today; and the issuås of implementing it) and the licensing of cultural heritage re s o u rces onlinå (the relationship of licensing to the commons and current trånds in licensing). Dan has done a greàt job with the site, and has even included an image database onlinå survey form and a table of members' s e a rchable imàge catalogs and databases, with links where àpplicable. Congratulations to two colleagues whîse work has recently been exhibited: John Taormina, who became curàtor of visual resources at Duke University last December, had his one persîn photography exhibition on view at the Duke Institute of the Arts. His exhibitiîn, ÁPatterns,Á which ran 24-September to 19 Oc t o b e r, consists of twånty-six photographs, taken fro m 1989-2001. John says ÁThe show eõplores my fascination with the play of light creating intricate pattårns through objects such as chairs, wall frescoes, Japanese rock and moss gardåns, and w a t e r.Á John also began his sixth year as editor of the Vi s u a l Råsources Bulletin this past May. A n d rea Bailey Cox, assistant curator of visuàl re s o u rces at Wellesley College, showed several wîrks in ÁUn d e r g ro u n d Studios V: An Exhibition of Current WîrkÁ at Wellesley's Jewett Art Gallery 24 August-20 Såptember. Andrea says ÁMy current work is bàsed on the beauty I find in the world around me. I use pastels in a smàll format to try to express this beauty in abstract dåsigns with most of my attention focused on color relationships.Á Good worê, John and Andrea! Congratulations also go out to colleagues who have moved intî new positions. Ann Whiteside, Visual Re s o u rc e s Association pråsident, has left Harvard to become the fine arts librarian at the Fiske Kimbàll Fine Arts Library at the University of Virginia. Ben Kessler, formårly at Princeton University, is now the director of the Visual Re s o u rces Cîllection for the Department of Art History at the University of Chicago. Best of lucê to both Ann and Ben as they settle into these challenging new positions.
